Honorary Awards

A recognition beyond qualification.

Honorary awards are conferred by academic institutions upon individuals who have made an exceptional and lasting contribution to their field, their community, or to society at large. Unlike earned degrees, they are not awarded for completing a programme of study. They are a formal expression of institutional respect for a life's work.

These awards carry real weight. They represent the judgement of an academic community that a person's achievements merit formal recognition at the highest level. They are typically announced at a graduation or convocation ceremony and carry the same prestige as any other doctoral honour.

Scolars Lift works with candidates, nominators, and institutions to navigate the nomination process with care, ensuring that submissions are properly prepared, well-documented, and presented in the strongest possible form.

Categories of recognition

HONORARY DOCTORATE

Honoris Causa

The honorary doctorate is the highest academic honour an institution can bestow. It is typically awarded to individuals of international standing whose work has had a demonstrable and lasting impact. Recipients are addressed with the title of Doctor in recognition of their contribution.

HONORARY FELLOWSHIP

Fellow of the Institution

An honorary fellowship recognises distinguished contribution to a specific discipline or professional domain. It connects the recipient to the academic community of the awarding institution and acknowledges expertise that goes beyond formal qualification.

DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT

Distinguished Achievement Award

This award recognises individuals whose work has produced exceptional outcomes within a defined field. It is awarded to practitioners, researchers, and public figures whose achievements serve as a benchmark for others in their domain.

Who is considered for nomination

Nominees are typically individuals who have spent many years at the forefront of their field. Academic credentials are not a requirement. What matters is the nature and scale of the contribution being recognised.

Nominations may come from institutional partners, professional bodies, or individuals who can make a credible, well-evidenced case for why the nominee merits recognition. Self-nomination is generally not accepted by awarding institutions.

We advise nominators on how to frame the submission, what evidence is required, and how to approach the institution most likely to find the nomination compelling.
